Nicholai Georgiou was born in Muscat, Oman and developed a love of nature and the ocean from growing up camping in the desert, wadis and by the sea. His passion for photography was sparked through freediving and later spread to landscape, travel and cityscapes. All of his underwater images are taken in natural light on a single breath of air.
“I love the feeling of being weightless and free and of course the underwater encounters with fascinating marine life like Orca, Sharks, Turtles or Whales have been some of the best moments of my life.”
In 2017 he was awarded the “Most promising up and coming British underwater photographer of the year” in the prestigious underwater photographer of the year competition (UPY2017). He loves traveling and exploring nature searching for beautiful locations.
“Although I’ve always loved exploring places and hiking or camping in nature, photography adds a bit of extra motivation to walk a bit further, get up earlier for a sunrise or stay later waiting for the stars to appear. It definitely changed my perspective and I think I appreciate the beauty even more. Some of my favorite places to shoot are deserts, coastlines, forests and up in the mountains. I like cityscapes as well but it’s a different experience and often hectic compared to being somewhere remote and peaceful.”
